Together Against Abuse

135th Anniversary Celebration

This year, MSPCC's annual dinner, Together Against Abuse, raised nearly $750,000 to support programs and services vital to the health and safety of children throughout Massachusetts.  At this year’s dinner, MSPCC celebrated 135 years of protecting children. Hundreds of MSPCC's friends and supporters, including civic, business and philanthropic leaders joined together to celebrate the progress that we have made together over the years.  It was also an opportunity for a renewed commitment to the work that lies ahead. The event was held on April 11th, 2013 at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston.

Guest Speaker
This year’s guest speaker was Olympic Gold Medalist Kayla Harrison. Kayla made history at the 2012 London Olympics as the first American to win a gold medal in judo. Her athletic accomplishments inspired the nation, while her ability to persevere in the face of unthinkable trauma touched the hearts of her many fans. At the age of 16, Kayla revealed that for years she had been sexually abused by her coach. She found the courage to continue training with the guidance and support of new coaches. Her willingness to speak publicly about her abuse shines light on the issue of child sexual abuse. She continues to use her high profile to encourage other young victims to find the strength to come forward and begin to heal.
